Hal Leonard Celebrates the Life of the Legendary Stax Bassist

Written by Nick Rosaci, with help from Duck’s family and friends, this book from Hal Leonard charts the triumphs and tragedies of Duck’s amazing life. As bassist for the famous Stax-Volt studios in Memphis, Donald “Duck” Dunn (1941-2012) laid the foundations to countless soul, R&B and rock recordings throughout the 1960s and ’70s. Having worked alongside the likes of Booker T. & the MGs, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Elvis Presley, Isaac Hayes, and many more, Duck was also a member of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd’s riotous Blues Brothers.

The book presents Duck’s life and music in full detail, complete with an introduction by Dan Aykroyd, rare photos, stories and note-for-note transcriptions of nearly 60 iconic bass lines. Also included is online access to over an hour of audio demonstrations and play-alongs, featuring sound-alike tracks with guest appearances by Duck’s son Jeff Dunn and Will Lee using Duck’s actual bass. The audio can be accessed online using a unique code inside each book and can be streamed or downloaded.
