GoGo Penguin are fast making a name for themselves as ones to watch in 2017.
Lauded for their twisted electronic hooks and piano-driven tracks, the Mancunian outfit have been repeatedly tipped for success following their 2014 nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. The band’s third album, Man Made Object, is their debut on revered jazz label Blue Note Records. “A lot of the tracks started out as Rob’s electronic compositions, but we don’t really think about the particular style that much,” explains Nick. “It’s all music at the end of the day. We just wanted to take these new ideas as far as we could.” Among the hordes of musicians making music today, there are some that are happy to exist within the confines of their chosen genre, and there are others whose motivation extends beyond any comfortable or easily defined stylistic boundaries. This is almost certainly the case for GoGo Penguin, who continue to carve an enviable reputation as one of the most interesting jazz groups on the planet today. Man Made Object is out now on Blue Note. For more info visit www.gogopenguin.co.uk
